Understanding Wigs

Choosing between a human hair wig and a synthetic wig is an important decision, and maintenance often plays a significant role in determining which option is best suited to your lifestyle.

Human Hair Wigs

These offer the most natural look and movement and can be styled much like your own hair. However, they do require regular maintenance, including washing, conditioning, blow-drying, and heat styling.

• They are ideal for clients who:

• Enjoy styling their hair

• Want maximum versatility

• Are comfortable investing time into upkeep

• Prefer a long-term wig solution

• With proper care, human hair wigs can last a year or longer.

However, maintenance costs may be higher due to specialist products and professional upkeep appointments.

Synthetic Hair Wigs

Synthetic wigs are designed for convenience and ease of wear. They hold their style after washing, making them a fantastic low-maintenance option.

They are ideal for clients who:

• Prefer a ready-to-wear style

• Have a busy lifestyle

• Want minimal daily maintenance

• Are new to wearing wigs

Synthetic wigs are generally more affordable and weather-resistant, maintaining their shape even in humidity or rain. With regular wear, they typically last around 4–6 months.

Fit

A proper fit is one of the most important aspects of choosing a wig, as there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution.

Professional head measurements are essential to ensure your wig feels secure, natural, and comfortable. Wig caps are available in a variety of sizes, typically ranging from Petite to Large (approximately 51cm–59cm circumference), allowing for a personalised fit for every client.

When wearing a wig for the first time, it should feel slightly snug. You may notice a light mark across the forehead initially — this is completely normal. As the wig is worn, the cap will naturally adapt and loosen slightly over time. Most wigs also include adjustable fasteners at the back, allowing the fit to be tightened or loosened as needed.

Comfort

Comfort is key when wearing a wig throughout the day or evening.

Your wig should feel secure without causing pressure or discomfort. A wig that is too tight may lead to headaches, while a loose-fitting wig may slip or feel unstable. Lightweight wigs with breathable caps are ideal, particularly for sensitive scalps during or after treatment.

One of the most comfortable and natural-looking options available is a monofilament wig.

Monofilament wigs are designed with a fine mesh cap that is soft, lightweight, and breathable against the scalp. Individual hairs are hand-tied into the cap, creating the appearance of natural hair growth and allowing for a realistic scalp effect and natural hairline.

These wigs also offer excellent versatility in styling, as the hair can be parted in different directions and styled in various ways to suit your preferences. Their comfort, realism, and flexibility make them a popular choice for individuals experiencing long-term or daily hair loss.
